I'm Alison Delaney, foraging guide at Nibbling on Nature. I'm based in County Offaly in the Irish Midlands but run courses and travel throughout Ireland to forage wild food from the many different habitats we have here. I offer guided walks and workshops in bushcraft skills, urban, hedgerow, woodland and coastal foraging and have led forays with school groups, scout troops, active retired, as well as bespoke courses and private tuition. I have huge enthusiasm and passion for the outdoors and wild food, often living outside for weeks at a time, and am eager to share this knowledge with you to enable you to enjoy a similar connection to the land.
I've always felt at home and comfortable in the outdoors and spent much of my youth being fascinated by plants, trees and wildlife. This led me to participating in a number of bushcraft courses including some with Ray Mears at Woodlore. It was during this time that I learned, not just to look and admire, but to become more engaged and connected with the landscape. I learned to read different habitats for the huge potential of resources they offered, whether that was in knowing which wood to collect for specific types of fire, which materials make good tinder bundles for making fire by friction, which plants are good for cordage or basket making, which plants are edible and which are absolutely delicious. The interest was sparked and I've since spent many years learning, absorbing and practicing and know that I will always continue to do so.
I have worked as a school teacher, head guide with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and am currently a member of the team at a leading UK-based bushcraft school.
If you'd like to ask any questions, book or discuss a workshop, or learn more about what I do, please contact me at [email protected].
Looking forward to meeting you and......happy foraging!
